Family Centers employee runs marathon to support programming

Dedication will be taken to a whole new level next month when Family Centers’ Communications Director Bill Brucker will run the Vermont City Marathon in Burlington, Vt. to help ensure that needy kids receive the quality preschool education they deserve.

Mr. Brucker, of Stamford, will take to the hilly 26.2-mile course on May 26 to raise funds to support the Greenwich-based Family Centers’ Early Care and Education program. Every dollar raised will allow Family Centers to offer local families scholarships for its NAEYC-accredited Early Care and Education program.

Mr. Brucker has already collected more than $2,500 in donations, and hopes to raise a total of $5,000 by race day. This is the second consecutive year that Mr. Brucker has run a marathon in support of Family Centers. While training for last year’s New Jersey Marathon, he raised just over $2,500 for the agency.

“Adding a fund-raising component to my marathon training keeps me motivated — especially on those days when I don’t feel like going out on the road,” Mr. Brucker said. “As a father of two young boys, I’ve seen firsthand how a preschool experience can set kids up for future academic success. I’m thrilled to run this race so that Family Centers can offer this opportunity to more families.”
