Town Party set for Saturday

The Greenwich Town Party is ready to go this Saturday, May 25, and don’t forget, even if you don’t have a ticket for the main event at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park, you can still join in the fun.

This is the first year of Greenwich Town Party Rocks the Avenue!, an extension event of this year’s party on Greenwich Avenue that is free to the public. Party organizers say they hope the event, which takes place at the Havemeyer Building parking lot from noon to 6, will “bring more individuals and families together to celebrate community spirit and mutual generosity.”

The satellite event will have live music, food, family events, and more. The local bands set to perform include Front Row, Adjusting to Life, PINTO&MIRTS, The Skunk Rockets, Mongolian Monkfish, and Bonehedz. And the nearby businesses are fully on board.

“We are delighted that the Greenwich Town Party is expanding to Greenwich Avenue this year,” Scott Mitchell of Richards of Greenwich said in a press release. “Not only will it help to accommodate more people for this incredible celebration of community, but it also will be a fantastic opportunity for the retailers on Greenwich Avenue to join in the festivities.”

Richards is putting its money where its mouth is, too, by sponsoring the stage where the music will be performed on Greenwich Avenue.

And now people who are either unable to attend or are going later in the day won’t have to miss a bit of the music. WGCH radio (1490 AM) will be having a live broadcast from the Greenwich Town Party from 9:45 a.m. until 6 p.m. And just as in years past, Greenwich boaters may watch the fun in Indian Harbor, thanks to a large high-definition screen facing the water that will show off all the headliners and local bands.

The free family activities on Greenwich Avenue are set to last from noon to 5 and include face painting, strolling magicians, a stilt walker, balloon twist artists, and a spin art station. Kids will also have the opportunity to test out some toys at the Try Out Toys booth from 2:30 to 5, and free pictures may be taken in the Flash Photo Booth provided by Webster Bank from 2:30 to 6.

Additionally, attendees may visit a variety of stands that will serve free lemonade, cotton candy, popcorn, and sno cones. To round out the festivities, food and beverages will be available for purchase from local vendors, including Bobby Q’s Pit Stop, El Charrito Mexican Food Truck, Melt Mobile, The Original Good Humor Truck, and Wendy’s Weenies. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or a blanket, relax, and enjoy an afternoon of live music, food, beverages, children’s activities, and a community celebration.

Those who would like to attend the main event at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park may still purchase Fair Share tickets that include admission, part-donation, and a GTP merchandise package. Greenwich Town Party Fair Share tickets are $400 each and are representative of the cost to produce the Greenwich Town Party. To order them, visit greenwichtownparty.com online or come to the Greenwich Town Party’s desk today, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
