Lockwood Lane Bridge to close Monday

After a few delays, the Lockwood Lane Bridge is finally set to close next week in order for a construction project to proceed.

Construction activity commenced on this past Monday, May 13, and the official closing of Lockwood Lane will become effective on Monday, May 20.

The Lockwood Lane Bridge will be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic for the duration of the project from May 20 through November 30. The project will require periodic night work for portions of the project to include removal of the existing bridge which began this week and is scheduled to take place through late June.

A progress meeting regarding the replacement of the Lockwood Lane Bridge was held earlier this month with the Connecticut Department of Transportation, ROTHA Contracting and members of the town’s Department of Public Works.

The bridge project is being administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation and the construction contractor for the work is ROTHA Contracting, Inc. of Avon. The scheduled completion date for the project is Nov. 30, 2013 with a total construction cost of $3,055,349.50.

The following detour will he established: Traffic wanting to travel northbound on Lockwood Lane shall utilize Lockwood Road west to Riverside Avenue north to East Putnam Avenue (Route 1). Traffic wanting to travel southbound on Lockwood Lane shall utilize East Putnam Avenue (Route 1) west to Riverside Avenue south to Lockwood Road east.
