It was a Mother’s Day marathon that took place earlier today at Trumbull High School, as the Greenwich High School softball team traveled up to Trumbull for a key FCIAC tilt against the Golden Eagles.

It took 11 innings and had its fair share of dramatic plays, but the Cardinals were able to come away with the thrilling 6-4 victory Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, Greenwich upped its Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference record to 13-3 on the season.

Leading the way for Big Red was Rebecca Decarlo, who finished 4-for-6 with two runs batted in and also those two runs knotted the game at 4-4 late in the contest. Ebba Mark went 2-for-6 with one RBI while Erin Ferguson contributed by going 1-for-5 with one RBI. Alison Kach pitched in by going 1-for-5 with one run batted in.

On the mound, Kach was stellar, grabbing six strikeouts on the day while only walking two Trumbull batters.

Greenwich will be back in action Monday afternoon when they host Bassick High School at 5 p.m.
