Sacred Heart lacrosse beats Taft 13-7 on Senior Day

The Convent of the Sacred Heart lacrosse team couldn’t ask for a better way to spend a rainy Saturday afternoon.

Despite dodging drops of rain, the Tigers hosted Taft School on Senior Day at Sacred Heart and came away with the commanding 13-7 victory.

“It was a really exciting game and I was really happy with how we scored a bunch of goals and played a full 50 minutes,” Sacred Heart head coach Courtney DePeter said. “Today was also Senior Day and our last regular season home game, so it was great to have such a finish in front of our fans and for the seniors. All around we played one of our best games of the season.”

The day was highlighted by senior Taylor Ryan. In picking up five goals, and adding an assist, for the day, Ryan joined some elite company at the school. Scoring off a free position opportunity, Ryan netted her 100th goal at Sacred Heart.

“Taylor loves to score and has a really nice shot,” DePeter said. “For her to get her 100th goal on Senior Day, on top of scoring five goals, was so exciting for her. It’s always hard for someone to get their 100th goal because of all the pressure leading up to it. I was so happy when she got her 100th goal.”

DePeter said that Ryan is such a scoring threat because of a no-fear mentality that the senior has played during her tenure at the school.

“She’s really aggressive and really likes to drive to goal,” DePeter said. “The second half of this season, she’s been able to place the ball better and finish. She’s a leader and is really finishing this season strong.”

In addition to Ryan’s five goals, the duo of Mo Leitner and Catherine Hayden each finished with two goals and one assist. Emma Novick added two goals, while Colleen O’Neill pitched in with one goal and two assists. Allie Kenny rounded out the scoring for CSH with one goal.

Maddie Pillari was, yet again, solid in net, finishing with 10 saves on the day.

With the victory, Sacred Heart moved its record to 9-5 on the season and will be back in action Monday afternoon when they travel to Choate Rosemary Hall.
