Ever since she hit the food scene, Greenwich resident Debra Ponzek has been delighting culinary circles with her unique approach to meals.

Now the owner of Aux Délices has advice for time-strapped cooks, who will have the opportunity to meet her as she signs copies of her latest book, The Dinnertime Survival Cookbook: Delicious, Inspiring Meals for Busy Families, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, at Elm Street Books in New Canaan.

Just in time for a Mother’s Day gift, the cookbook has a focus on accessible recipes with only a few simple ingredients. It takes the humble pantry staple and transforms it into restaurant-quality dishes. More than 125 recipes are organized the way people really cook — by main ingredient or technique. Tired of plain old burgers? Then check out the Everybody Loves Burgers chapter for something a little different, like Greek Lamb Burgers. In the mood to fire up the grill? Flip to the section titled Let’s Grill Tonight, featuring Chicken Tiki Kebabs and Soy and Sake Grilled Tuna.

Ms. Ponzek graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1984. As chef of Montrachet in New York City, a position she held for seven years, she earned three consecutive three-star reviews from the New York Times. At the age of 28, she was selected one of the Ten Best New American Chefs by Food & Wine magazine. In 1990, she was named Chef of the Year by the Chefs of America Association, and a year later was the recipient of the coveted Rising Chef of the Year award by the James Beard Foundation. She was also the first American to receive the prestigious Moreau Award for culinary excellence from the Frederick Wildman and Sons Company. She left Montrachet in June 1994 to move to Greenwich with her husband to open Aux Délices, a gourmet prepared food shop, café and catering business.
