Gardener’s Market returns this weekend

It’s once again time for the Garden Education Center of Greenwich’s (GEC) annual May Gardener’s Market, taking place Saturday May 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The organization will welcome more than 20 carefully selected vendors for garden and home that will be selling spectacular collections of annuals, perennials, heirloom vegetables, wildflowers, herbs, shrubs, trees and unique plants.

The vendor list will include old favorites as well as some newcomers at this year’s event. The Back Yard Beekeepers will also be back to present an educational program for the whole family.

Proceeds from the market will help support GEC’s many outreach programs that stem from the greenhouse. Such efforts include providing internships for high school students, elementary school “afters” programs, local school visits, filling the flower boxes at the Cos Cob Post Office, post-storm clean up of Greenwich parks, donations to Neighbor to Neighbor of food harvested from the GEC teaching garden, fulfilling badge requirements for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Eagle Scouts, making holiday wreaths for Inspirica residents as well as the monthly floral workshops to town-wide organizations such as The Mews, Greenwich Adult Day Care, Pathways, Inc., Nathaniel Witherell and The Senior Center of Greenwich.

The event is rain or shine and admission is free. Parking is at the Cos Cob School with shuttle transport. Plant pick up is provided.
