Support for MISA is support for public education

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

The following letter was addressed to the members of the Representative Town Meeting and is reprinted with the authors’ permission.

We know the cost of the MISA project has risen and the impact this may have on our town. There are indeed many capital projects that need to be attended to in the near future.

However, the impact MISA will have on us fiscally is not as important as the reasons to go forward with this project. MISA first and foremost benefits our children, who are the future of our town, increases the value of our properties and continues to support public education in the right direction.

Our town is blessed with an incredible music and arts program offering students orchestra lessons and performances starting in third grade.  Band, jazz band, chorus, choir, Eastmen and Treble Choir are just a few of the many offerings for our children. The performances we have personally seen in the past few year are incredible thanks to the endless and tireless efforts of their talented teachers. Imagine the quality of the performances with a facility such as MISA.

Our family has one child off to high school next year and two more to go in the future. I hope, like our family, you can all see the long-term benefits of the proposed MISA project which is up for the final appropriation on May 13.

It is imperative the RTM approve this project for our town. Money spent to support our public schools will always come back to our town in many ways. Student will thrive with a facility that supports their interests in the arts. Our schools have and will continue to draw new families into our community buying properties so their children can benefit from what our schools have to offer.

Public education in Greenwich can continue to be among the best with  RTM support.
