Water main replacement begins

drinking waterAquarion Water Company has announced a water main replacement project on Shore Road from Nawthorne Road to Sylvan Road is set to begin April 29.

The work on Shore Road is expected to be completed by August. The project will replace a total of 2,700 feet of six-inch cast iron water main with 12-inch ductile iron main, as part of the company’s improvement plan to increase fire flows in the areas.

Upon completion of the work on Shore Road, the next phase of the project calls for replacing 1,900 feet of six-inch and eight-inch cast iron mains with 12-inch ductile iron main on Sound Beach Avenue. Work on this phase will begin after Labor Day.

During the project, customers in the area may experience temporary service disruptions or discolored water. Aquarion recommends customers store water in their refrigerators for drinking and cooking in  case these circumstances arise. Customers are also asked to refrain from washing laundry if water is discolored. Prior to resuming use, customers should run their cold water faucets until the water appears clear.

Due to construction, minor traffic issues and detours may also arise. The town recently approved a detour plan.

“We greatly appreciate residents’ patience during this project,” said George Logan, Aquarion’s director of engineering & planning. “We will work closely with our customers, contractors, and town officials from the highway, wastewater, and traffic operations departments to coordinate the work and minimize disruption.”

Customers with project-related questions may contact Steve Glowa, Aquarion’s pipeline program coordinator, at 203-362-3061. For service or water-related issues, contact Aquarion Customer Service at 1-800-732-9678.
