SWRMPO transportation meeting Thursday morning

The South Western Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (SWRMPO) will meet Thursday April 25, to discuss transportation and non-transportation policy, programs and projects that concern the South Western Region.

In addition to action items regarding TIP amendments and endorsements, legislation priorities and bills of interest will be discussed including Bill 6629 — an act concerning regionalism. In addition, Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Jim Redeker, Metro-North President Howard Permut, and MTA Vice President of Long Range Planning Bill Wheeler will provide a status report on rail services, infrastructure and projects.

The meeting will be held at the Norwalk Transit District located at 275 Wilson Avenue, Norwalk, and will begin promptly at 8:15 a.m.

The SWRMPO is comprised of the chief elected officials of the South Western Region’s eight towns of Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Weston, Westport and Wilton, and the directors of the region’s transit districts. As mandated by federal regulations, the SWRMPO is responsible for transportation policy development, planning and programming of federal transportation funding for the region.

The SWRMPO meets on the fourth Thursday of every month, at either the Norwalk Transit District or the South Western Regional Planning Agency. The public is invited to participate.
