Ellison wins first-ever Greenwich Half Marathon

Gus Ellison, a 37-year-old from Rowayton, led the field of 486 finishers to win the inaugural Greenwich Half Marathon that began and finished Sunday morning at Tod’s Point.

Ellison had a time of 1 hour, 15 minutes and 23 seconds over the 13.1-mile course through the flat area of Old Greenwich and the rolling hills of Riverside.

Mitch West, 43, of Wilton was runner-up with a 1:20:14, which was 13 seconds ahead of third-place James Charlton, 43, of Riverside.

Nick Logan, 31, of Norwalk placed fourth with a 1:22:14. Peter Bailey (1:22:27) and Peter Mullen (1:22:36), both from Riverside, placed fifth and sixth, respectively.

Carolina Pena of Old Greenwich was the women’s champion and 16th overall with a 1:26:13. Tara Allen of Greenwich was the runner-up woman and 19th overall with a 1:26:27 while Greenwich’s Dara Dickson placed third among females and was 22nd overall with a 1:27.03.

Pena, Allen and Dickson were three of the 12 Greenwich residents who placed among the top 25. The others included Ben Quinn (eighth, 1:24:09), Peter Karp (11th, 1:25:43), Riverside’s Zachariah Pratt (12th, 1:25:48), Joseph Turesanyi (13th, 1:25:58), Cos Cob’s Miguel Murray (20th, 1:26:38), Cos Cob’s John Langley (24th, 1:27:23) and Alan Hagander (25th, 1:27:33).

There were 282 male finishers and 204 female finishers in the half marathon that was the second event in the Betteridge Greenwich Cup 2013 series that is presented by the Hospital for Special Surgery and hosted by Threads and Treads.

The third event of the series is the Cancer Care Walk/Run for Hope (5K Run/Walk, Kids Half Mile) at 9 a.m. on May 5 at Tod’s Point.
