Sacred Heart golf team starts season with win over Westover

On a picture-perfect afternoon, the Convent of the Sacred Heart golf team started its season in grand fashion, beating Westover 3.5 – 1.5 earlier today.

The Tigers’ No. 3 golfer, Alexa deAlessandrini, took care of her Westover opponent by winning 2 and 1. Not to be outdone was Mimi Dunn at No. 4, as she beat her Westover opponent, 5 and 3. Rounding out the victories for Sacred Heart was Grace Campbell, who came away with the 5 and 4 victory.

At No. 1, CSH top golfer Christie Huchro was even with her opponent, while Kelly McLaughlin put up a good fight at No. 2 but fell to Westover 3 and 2.

“The girls played great in their first outing,” CSH head coach Karen Panarella said. “Captain Alexa deAlessandrini really led the team nicely with her win. Our two freshmen, Kelly and Grace, were great in their debut performance and I couldn’t be prouder. Christie and Mimi were solid last year and played outstanding for us today. It was a great way to start the season and the weather was perfect.”

With the victory, Sacred Heart upped its record to 1-0 on the season and will resume play Wednesday when they travel to the Watertown Country Club for a match against both Rye Country Day School and Taft School.
