Choate scores three in sixth to upend Brunswick baseball, 6-3

The Brunswick School baseball team knotted the game against Choate Rosemary Hall in the top of the sixth inning. However Choate scored three time in the bottom of the inning and came away with the 6-3 decision over the Bruins earlier today.

The Bruins scored once in the first, fifth and innings. Brunswick took a 1-0 lead over Choate in the top of the first. With two outs, Ryan Popp singled to right. Up stepped Justin Cedeno and he unloaded a double to center field and Popp scored on the play.

After Choate took a 2-1 lead after three innings, Brunswick scored once in the fifth to tie the game. With one out, William Salomon drilled a triple to right field and came around to score when the Choate pitcher threw a wild pitch during Michael Marzonie’s at bat.

Although Choate grabbed the 3-2 lead with one run in the bottom of the inning, the Bruins fought back with another run to start the sixth, courtesy of Popp, who launched a solo homer to center field.

Nick Kono was Brunswick’s starter. In 4.2 innings of work, Kono gave up three earned runs and four hits, while walking six batters. Evan Jonokuchi came on in relief and gave up three earned runs on three hits while striking out two and walking two.

With the loss, Brunswick fell to 0-3 on the season and will look to get back on its winning ways tomorrow afternoon when they host Rye Country Day School at 1 p.m.
