Greenwich Academy opens golf season with 4-1 win over King School

The Greenwich Academy golf team started the season in commanding fashion yesterday afternoon, beating King School 4-1 at Sterling Farms Golf Club in Stamford.

The Gators were paced by Hope Matthews, who drained a 25-foot birdie putt on the seventh hole to close out her match. In their first varsity match, Jessica Yacobucci and Susana Vik also ended the day with wins. Vik was the No. 4 golfer for Greenwich Academy and defeated King School’s Brooke Barthe 4 & 3, while Yacobucci, GA’s No. 4 golfer, beat King’s Frances Jay 5 & 4.

Greenwich Academy’s No. 2 golfer Matthews finished off Katharina Focke 4 & 2, while Phoebe Morrison competed at No. 5 for GA and beat King’s Amanda Cohen 5 & 4.

The only loss on the day was at No. 1, where Camilla Vik fell to King School’s Sabrina Sampson 2 & 1.

With the victory, the Gators improved to 1-0 on the season.
