Church to bring gospel to life with pottery presentation

Greenwich Baptist Church will host a unique “Journey to the Potter’s House” sermon on Sunday, April 7, during its regular worship hour at 11 a.m.

The 90-minute sermon features evangelist/potter Michael Ferris as he works with clay, shaping it into pottery, in what he calls “an illustrated parable that brings the gospel to life.” Based on the Old Testament Book of Jeremiah, Chapter 18, the lesson brings listeners face-to-face with God in a dramatic way, according to Greenwich Pastor Lloyd Syvertsen.

“The audience sees what Jeremiah saw as he watched the potter take the clay through various stages, fashioning it into a useful vessel,” Mr. Syvertsen said. “Like Jeremiah, listeners will grow in their understanding of how God can use all of the circumstances of a person’s life, even the most painful ones, to fashion them into a vessel of beauty, worth, and purpose — a ‘vessel of honor, fit for the Master’s use’ as stated in II Timothy 2:21.”

He added, The message of the potter is a message of hope, love, and redemption. As people watch the potter working with the clay, they will feel their faith inspired and their hope renewed. I have personally witnessed this sermon and it is powerful indeed.”

Members of the community are invited to attend the special service. Detailed information on the presentation can be accessed at ajourneytothepottershouse.com and for more information contact the church at 203-661-6017.
