Brunswick baseball falls to Hopkins in FAA title rematch

The Brunswick School baseball team took to the diamond earlier today in a rematch of last year’s Fairchester Athletic Association title game. However this time around it was Hopkins that came up victorious, beating the Bruins 7-3.

Bradley Wilpon got the start for Brunswick. In five innings of work, Wilpon gave up four hits and three runs, while walking five and striking out six batters.  Connor Redahan came for relief and wasn’t able to hold down Hopkins. In two innings, Redahan gave up four hits and four runs while walking one and striking out two.

Nick Kono was Brunswick’s big bat on the day. In four at bats, Kono had three hits and scored one run. Not to be outdone was Ted Maynard, who finished with two hits on the day and also scored a run.

The Bruins, who finished with six hits on the day, got an additional hit from Justin Cedeno.

Hopkins was paced by Simon Matthews, as the starting pitcher went the distance and gave up only six hits and struck up eight batters.

With the loss, Brunswick fell to 0-2 on the season.
