Home designers to present collaborative works

Meet award winning designers Ernest de la Torre of de la Torre design studio, Thomas Britt of Thomas Britt Design and architect Shea Murdock of Murdock Solon Architects as they present some of their most stunning collaborative design work on April 10 at the Bruce Museum.

The designers will share fascinating stories of how they worked together to develop design concepts and helped local homeowners through the design process.

Mr. de la Torre’s approach has established him as an interior designer who consistently breaks new ground for clients, while custom tailoring surroundings and his passion for design was influenced by the local classic architecture of David Adler and Mies van der Rohe. Mr. de la Torre embarked on his design career at Peter Marino Architects in New York, and later honed his architectural vision by teaming with Ian Schrager and later with the Ralph Lauren Home Division, creating new furniture, lighting, and table top and textile concepts.

Mr. de la Torre founded his own design studio in 2001 and has since completed significant homes in Manhattan, Palm Beach, Montecito, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Vermont, East Hampton and Greenwich. New projects include G5 and G3 Jet airplanes and a house in the Bahamas. His firm specializes in designing spaces around unique collections of art, custom furniture and textiles created over the years in his studio.

Mr. Murdock earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Tulane University in 1992 and his Master of Architecture from Yale University in 1997. Before forming Murdock Solon Architects, he worked as an architect in offices in Germany and New York, managing the design of a high-rise office building, a sports arena and high-end residences. From 1999 to 2010 he led the firm as co-founder and partner. Mr. Murdock has been a visiting architectural critic at the Bauhaus in Dessau, Germany, the Art Institute in Berlin, Germany, and the University of Miami’s program in Venice, Italy.

Mr. Britt’s work has also been published prolifically. He has been extensively featured in Architectural Digest, and has appeared in several other domestic publications such as Avenue, Elle Décor, House Beautiful, House and Garden, the New York Times, Quest, St. Louis Post Dispatch, Washington Post, and W Magazine.

The event takes place Wednesday, April 10 at the Bruce Museum, 1 Museum Drive. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m., lecture begins at 7 p.m. RSVP directly to: [email protected]
