Greenwich native Laney honored for academic success

Greenwich native and Muhlenberg College women’s basketball player Erin Laney was named to the Centennial Conference Academic honor roll for her success both on and off the court.

An American studies major and Spanish minor, Laney played in all 26 games and made 12 starts this season. She averaged 6.5 points and 4.7 rebounds, ranking third on the team in both categories. She also notched her first career double-double with a career-high 20 points and 11 rebounds in a 59-48 victory at local rival DeSales.

To be named to the Academic Honor roll, a student must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, a starter or key reserve on her team and carry at least a 3.40 cumulative grade-point average.

The Mules finished the season atop the conference with an average of 65.3 points per game, ranked second in field-goal percentage (.381) and were third in field-goal percentage defense (.325). Muhlenberg ended its 2012-13 campaign with a 17-9 overall record and a 14-6 mark in conference play.

The Mules returned to the CC playoffs for the eighth consecutive year, where they fell to Swarthmore in a semifinal match-up that was decided in the final minute of play.
