YMCA of Greenwich Marlins smash CT records

The YMCA of Greenwich sent 60 swimmers to the Connecticut Age Group Championship Meet at Wesleyan University. Against 40 other teams from around the region, Greenwich was able to set new state records in four events.

In the girls 13- to 14-years0ld 400-yard medley relay, the Greenwich foursome of Quinn Scannell, Carolyn Morikawa, Diana Tramontano and Malavika Pande took home a state record time of 3:59.05.

Four more YMCA of Greenwich athletes made it into the record book on two separate occasions  During the boys 10-years-old and under 200-yard medley relay, the team of Jason Marsella, Eisuke Takahashi, Conway Zhou and Nicholas Todorovic finished with a time of 2:08.33.

The same group also netted a state record in the boys 10-years-old and under 400-yard medley relay, touching the wall with a time of 4:42.04.

Not to be outdone was Alex Jahan. In the boys 13- and 14-years-old 100-yard breaststroke, Jahan finished first overall with a time of 58.40 seconds.

The Connecticut Age Group championships are open to all Connecticut swimming USA registered clubs and swimmers, who meet the eligibility criteria and time standards. It is traditionally one of the most competitive meets in the state.

“It was an exhausting weekend, but none of us would have missed it for anything,” Marlin coach Tessa Campbell said. “All our swimmers did great. We are so proud of them. To bring home four new state records makes all the training, sore muscles and damp hair worth it. As coaches, we feel very lucky to have swimmers and families that work hard, are dedicated and supportive of the team.”
