Easter basket donations in full swing

A local Easter tradition continues for the sixth consecutive year as Splurge partners with Kids in Crisis and the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County to collect Easter baskets for children in need.

Splurge Unique Gifts, Home Décor and Jewelry provides a convenient downtown Greenwich location, 39 Lewis Street, for members of the community to donate filled Easter baskets now through Wednesday, March 27.

“I am extremely thankful for our generous and thoughtful clients that donate one, two and even 10 Easter baskets for children in need,” said Splurge owner Sonia Sotire Malloy.

Alon Marom, director of development for corporate & community giving at Kids in Crisis added, “The Easter basket collection conducted by Sonia and Splurge for Kids in Crisis makes a very powerful impact on the children residing in the shelter. The holidays are often a difficult time for the children, but through Sonia’s efforts, our children have the chance to experience these special occasions just like everyone else. Kids in Crisis is grateful for Splurge’s support in making the holidays a joyful time for families and children in Fairfield County.”

According to Kate Lombardo, executive director of the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, “Every morning the children residing in shelters awake and open the door to their room and enter the common area. Every Easter for the past five years, Splurge has made this routine very different.

On Easter morning because of Splurge, when the children open their door there is a beautiful Easter basket sitting there waiting to be unwrapped.

The children are thrilled and excited to know that the Easter bunny did not forget them.”

Cellophane wrapped Easter baskets can be filled with items for children aged two to 17 and can include toys, journals, decks of cards, personal care items, gift cards, packaged healthy snacks and traditional Easter candy.

To thank individuals for their generosity, anyone who donates an Easter basket will receive $10 off a purchase of $30 or more at Splurge, valid until March 31.

Local groups, includng Greenwich Girl Scouts, have been helping out with the effort, making it a truly community-wide project.
