Himes to address gun legislation, budget at Town Hall discussion

Are there questions you want answered about today’s political issues? Then join the League of Women Voters of Greenwich as they host a discussion with U.S. Rep. Jim Himes today, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall Meeting Room.

Mr. Himes, a Cos Cob resident and former member of the town’s Board of Estimate and Taxation, will address the issues and challenges facing our state and nation, including responsible gun legislation and the status of the budget negotiations. Following his brief remarks there will be a moderated question and answer period with submissions from the audience.

Mr. Himes represents Connecticut’s fourth district in the United States House of Representatives. He is currently serving his third term in Congress and is a member of the House Committee on Financial Services. Recently, Mr. Himes co-sponsored a bill to ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips. He also was one of only 38 Democratic and Republican members, called “the Brave 38,” who voted for a budget compromise, an application of the Simpson-Bowles bi-partisan fiscal reform plan. Mr. Himes was a Harvard Rhodes Scholar and international banker who left the business world to work with nonprofits and subsequently to serve in office.

All are welcome to attend the program. For more information, visit Lwvg.org or contact Marie Vandivort at [email protected]
