Greenwich resident Bucklin helps Team Canada with shutout

Greenwich resident and current Trinity Catholic High School goalie Taylor Bucklin is currently training with the Canadian National U-17 Women's Soccer team in Sunrise, Florida.

A dual citizen of both Canada and the United States, Bucklin is under consideration by the Canadian National head coach Bryan Rosenfeld for a spot as one of the three keepers he will bring down with his team to for the 2012 CONCACAF Women's Under-17 Championship in Guatemala this May.

The eight-team championship will qualify three teams to the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, which will be held in Azerbaijan from Sept. 22 to Oct. 13, 2012.

Bucklin, who trained with the Canadian National U-17 team in Mexico City back in Dec., had a shutout in goal against the Mexican National U-17 team in friendly competition the last day of camp. Canada won the match 2-0.

"The level of competition was amazing," Bucklin said. "Mexico has some terrific players like Jenny Chiu (committed North Carolina) who really challenged us."

Starting March 3 and going until March 18, Bucklin will travel to play for the Team USA Region 1 Olympic Developmental Porgram team to Russia to play in an International tournament in Sochi, home of the 2014 Winter Olympics. She will be playing against U-19 teams from Russia, Ukraine, China, South Korea and Japan.

Bucklin, who played for Greenwich High School prior to transferring to Trinity Catholic, has verbally committed to play for University of Michigan in 2013.
