Greenwich Flames win President's Day tournament

Greenwich Flames Basketball Club picked up their second tournament trophy of the season this President’s Day in White Plains, N.Y.

Greenwich beat Ridgefield, 40-37 in the finals of the Westchester Basketball Championship Tournament. Yorktown, White Plains and Mt. Vernon all fell to Greenwich in the weekend-long tournament.

This is the first time Greenwich has won the competitive WBC Tournament. Greenwich player Emmett Witmer received the Tournament Most Valuable Player trophy and was also named to the First Team All-Tournament. Nick Bartels was named the WBC Outstanding Player.

Town of Greenwich men’s town softball meeting set for Feb. 27

The Department of Parks and Recreation announces that Feb. 27 will be the dates of organizational meetings for the town of Greenwich’s men’s slow-pitch softball leagues.

Any new teams desiring to enter a League for the 2012 season must attend the appropriate organizational meeting.

The Industrial League will hold a meeting on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. This meeting will be in the Cone Conference Room on the second floor of Greenwich Town Hall on Field Point Road.

   

Convent of the Sacred Heart blasts St. Luke's in FAA hoops opening round

If there was any pressure on head coach Sean Green or any of the Convent of the Sacred Heart basketball players earlier today, if definitely didn't show yesterday.

After earning the school's first Fairchester Athletic Association regular season championship in 23 years, the Tigers took its top seed to the CSH hardwood in the FAA tournament opening round game against St. Luke's and came away with the commanding 56-40 victory.

   

Brunswick hockey team beats Kingswood-Oxford, keeps playoff hopes alive

The Brunswick ice hockey team kept its New England Division I Large School playoffs chase alive with a 9-0 victory over Kingswood-Oxford School during Senior Night at Brunswick's Hartong Rink.

After scoring twice in the opening period, the Bruins exploded with four goals in the second period and three more in the third frame.

   

Wild week ahead for Greenwich High boys basketball team

Entering the final week of the regular season, the Greenwich High School boys basketball team has its destiny in its own hands.

Already assured of a spot in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference class LL playoffs, the Cardinals are looking to qualify for the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference tournament, which gets underway Saturday at noon.
