Police: Man tried to rob neighbor of guns

A Greenwich man is under arrest for reportedly burglarizing a neighbor's home and attempting to steal guns.

Robert Eberheim, 22, of 33 Bible St. was arrested Feb. 19 and charged with first degree burglary, fifth degree larceny, two counts of theft of firearms and one charge each of interfering with police and giving a false statement to police.

Police were called to the scene of a reported burglary at 35 Bible Street and said that a witness was able to identify Mr. Eberheim as the person responsible. Police then began a pursuit north on Bible Street and, according to officer reports, Mr. Eberheim was found in the Bible Street Park parking lot at its entrance to the Pinetum property.

GPD Public Information Officer Lt. Kraig Gray said that the weapons charges stemmed from Mr. Eberheim reportedly attempting to remove legally owned firearms from the residence. He said that a witness saw Mr. Eberheim attempting to take items from the residence and called police.

Once officers arrived, Mr. Eberheim reportedly ran on foot to park and attempted to enter the woods on the Pinetum property despite an officer's request to stop. Police said Mr. Eberheim then gave them a false statement, claiming someone else had attempted to commit the burglary.

Mr. Eberheim was held in lieu of a $150,000 cash bond and is due in court Feb. 27.
