Two car rollover crash closes King St.

King Street Road was closed for approximately six hours early this morning after a two car rollover crash, leaving both drivers with non-life threatening injuries and one person entrapped inside the vehicle.

Police were called to the scene just after 2 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8. According to police, the crash occurred when one car attempted to pass a second car which had begun to slow down. The passing car swerved back into the lane colliding with the first car resulting in both vehicles leaving the road and rolling over. The car being passed struck two utility poles set next to each other severing them at the base.

The driver of the car being passed was entrapped. Greenwich Fire Department extricated him from the vehicle and he was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released. The operator of the car who was engaged in the passing maneuver suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene.

King Street remained closed in both directions until 8 a.m., when the northbound lane was open. Repair work was completed on the two utility poles and the southbound lane was reopened by 8:45 a.m., police said.

The incident remains under investigation by senior collision investigators. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the traffic section at 203-622-8014.
