After six terms in office, State Rep. Lile Gibbons (R-150) announced Wednesday night that it was time to step away and that she would not be going for lucky number seven.

Ms. Gibbons made the announcement before the Greenwich Republican Town Committee who thanked her for her service with a standing ovation. Ms. Gibbons was first elected to the state legislature in 2000 after serving as chairman of the Board of Education. She won her seat narrowly after a tightly contested Republican primary and ironically never faced a challenge again, running unopposed for all of her general elections.

A standing ovation marked the performance by Pajtasi Slovak Folk Ensemble at their Jan. 19 concert, one of the Byram Shubert Library's ongoing series of free musical performances. "Pajtasi" — loosely translated — means "rascals" in English and the group reportedly brought the liveliness of their musical heritage to the enthusiastic audience.

Led by Brano Brinarski, bassist, the musicians played both modern and traditional instruments, including the accordian, violin, cimbalom which is an antique 125 string xylophone-like instrument, and fujara, which is a six-foot long wooden flute. Mr. Brinarski spoke of the history, geography language, customs and Slovakian traditions.

Robert Eberheim, 22, of 33 Bible St. was arrested Feb. 19 and charged with first degree burglary, fifth degree larceny, two counts of theft of firearms and one charge each of interfering with police and giving a false statement to police.

Police were called to the scene of a reported burglary at 35 Bible Street and said that a witness was able to identify Mr. Eberheim as the person responsible. Police then began a pursuit north on Bible Street and, according to officer reports, Mr. Eberheim was found in the Bible Street Park parking lot at its entrance to the Pinetum property.

Colorful bottles of all shapes and sizes were on display last Saturday, Feb. 18 as lifelong Cos Cob resident Bill Cameron presented a program on "The Great Medicine Era" at the Greenwich Library.

Mr. Cameron is an avid glass collector with a vast collection of medicine bottles. In researching his bottles, he developed an interest in the history of medicine peddlers, a time before modern medicine when doctors were scarce and exotic elixirs were sold to cure ailments real and imagined.

A local mothers group is organizing a county-wide fire safety awareness and fund-raising event to honor the Badger family, five members of whom were killed in a tragic Christmas Day fire in Stamford, and local fire stations. CT-Moms, a local group of over 300 moms in Fairfield County, have organized a county-wide fire safety awareness and benefit called A Show of Support. The informal, family-friendly, one-hour event, open to the public, will take place on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m., simultaneously at participating fire stations between Stratford and Greenwich. The event is designed to allow local residents to show, through attendance and improved fire safety education, their solidarity with families like the Badgers who have suffered fire-related tragedies and their support for their local fire stations.
