"I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion" said Alexander the Great. These are the words of a wise man indeed! Little wonder then that writers and poets have unceasingly turned to him for inspiration in their works. The great composer, Handel, is no exception and his choral work "Alexander's Feast" is no small contribution to the pantheon of great works honoring a mythical leader.

The Authors Live at Greenwich Library program enables readers to come hear an author speak about their book, get it signed and indulge their love of books. This January has already been a wonderful start to the year in terms of the diversity and wealth of authors on the program. My two favorites are Jennifer Homans author of "Apollo's Angels, A History of Ballet" and author Sally Bedell Smith for her book "Elizabeth the Queen, Life of a Modern Monarch." For more information log onto Greenwichlibrary.org.

Beginning on Jan. 28 the Bruce Museum will host an exhibit entitled "Walter Wick: Games, Gizmos and Toys in the Attic." This exhibit will spotlight the playful and interactive world of Walter Wick, best-selling author and artist-creator of the "Can You See What I See?" series and co-creator, with writer Jean Marzollo, of the "I Spy" books for children. Approximately 40 large-scale color photographs from his books, as well as several of the models used to craft the images will be on view. Play with your Food is a program that presents readings of short plays alongside a Buffet lunch at noon. It's a simple concept that has become very popular. The upcoming Jan. 18 and 19 presentations are already sold out, so this is a heads up for the next one in March. All of the productions take place at the Greenwich Arts Center on 299 Greenwich Ave. Tickets are $43 and if I were you I would book tickets way ahead of time if you want to secure a spot. For more information you can log onto Greenwicharts.org. And for all you aspiring playwrights out there, The Play with Your Food directors are always on the lookout for new material. To learn more about submissions log onto the following website Jibproductions.org.
