Let the games begin!

With the beginning of the new year, Brunswick immediately plunged its students into preparation for one of the less memorable events of the year: Midterms. Once school reopened after winter break we had two weeks to review material, from the fading summer days of early September, up until that seemingly far away week before break. Exams were conveniently placed the week following Martin Luther King Jr. Day, allowing us to cherish Dr. King’s work even more by giving us an extra day of studying before we immersed ourselves in this fun-filled week. Then, as we emerged from these trials, battle-weary and worn, we believed it was all over. Little did we juniors know it was just the beginning...

This past Tuesday, the Brunswick class of 2013 began its embarkation on a journey that would consume the rest of its Brunswick careers: The college application process. It began with the annual College Night, where juniors and their parents came to school to get acquainted with the members of the college counseling office. During the one-hour time period, they narrated to us a sneak peek of the upcoming months, all the while underlining the fact that they would help to decrease our stress. One person described a story where an acquaintance of his, not knowing that he was a college counselor, went so far as to call this night a “Dog and Pony Show,” due to the over-hype created for such a seemingly common event. Although it looked like all smiles throughout the audience, one could feel the tension gathering in the air. It would take more than just Seal Team 6 to rescue us from this situation!

And the night could not have come at a more opportune time. Now that we had successfully endured midterms, we were in the midst of preparing for the next challenge, the notorious SAT. Thus the countdown has begun, with the finish line 15 months away.
