With schools open, make sure and take care

As we watched three high school students dart across East Putnam Avenue today, we said a quick prayer they would make it across safely.


No commitment to good is today’s biggest problem

As I read about quacks and beheadings, an arrogant “I am the greatest” 19-year-old tells me that there’s still hope for me as he serves coffee.


Consider a revolutionary proposal to raise test scores

How about we let our teenagers take state-mandated tests and the college boards when they are awake? Currently, tests start at 7:30 a.m., when most are not fully awake. Some are even comatose.


I will not give up trying to make the world a better place

I recently heard a radio tribute to Woodstock as John Sebastian sang, “I had a dream last night … what a wonderful dream … all the heavies were light.”
