The Greenwich Hospital Foundation recently announced that Raymond and Beverly Sackler of Greenwich, through the Raymond and Beverly Sackler Fund for the Arts and Sciences, have committed to a gift of a “substantial amount” to Greenwich Hospital to “support the outstanding work being done by surgeon Athanassios Petrotos, MD FACS and his colleagues in the Hospital’s Operating Suites.”
Dr. Petrotos is the director of the Acute Care Surgical Program at Greenwich Hospital and has been highly praised by his colleagues.
“In my experience, Dr. Petrotos is the finest representative of the nobility of the medical profession,” said Dr. Sackler.
To commemorate and recognize the gift, the hospital will name the Operating Suites The Raymond and Beverly Sackler Operating Suites, in honor of Dr. Petrotos. Dr. Sackler is a founder and board member of Purdue Pharma L.P., Stamford. Individually and through their foundations, Dr. Sackler and his wife are philanthropists recognized worldwide for their generous support for research in the biomedical and physical sciences as well as for their contributions to academic and cultural institutions. Dr. Sackler has been nationally honored as an Honorary Knight Commander in the Order of the British Empire, received the Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur from France and is an Officer in the Order of Orange Nassau in The Netherlands.
“The gift is a great honor to me personally, but more importantly it is going to help the hospital better serve the community especially in these difficult financial times,” said Dr. Petrotos.
Greenwich Hospital President and CEO, Frank A. Corvino said, “With the support of gifts like the Sacklers’, we are able to recruit and retain the finest professionals in medicine today. Such generous donations are of tremendous benefit to everyone in our community who turns to Greenwich Hospital for care.”
