The fifth to eighth grade student band members of Cease Fire recently rocked a special performance at the Whitby School, opening for the indie rock quartet My Radio. Under the direction of music teacher Roxanna Zampieri, Whitby’s Cease Fire performed two rock classics Guns N’ Roses’ Sweet Child O’ Mine and The Ramones’ Blitzkrieg Bop. Earlier in the semester, Cease Fire received performance pointers on Sweet Child of Mine from members of the legendary band Guns N’ Roses. In separate sessions, Guns N’ Roses guitarists Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal and Richard Fortus joined band practice via Skype to jam with Cease Fire.

In an interactive performance at Whitby, My Radio treated students to a 20-minute set, followed by a Q&A with the audience. The indie rock quartet just completed the East Coast leg of their tour in support of their newly released album, Starts In The East, Falls In The West.

Cease Fire’s special performance is one of the ways that Whitby guides students to engage in learning and discover meaningful connections between their subjects and the real world.
