Fifty Selma Maisel nursery schoolers wiggled about excitedly on the lobby floor of Temple Sholom on Sept. 23 for a special event.

The children were anticipating their performances for “Bubbe Selma’s” 90th birthday celebration. “Bubbe Selma” or Selma Maisel, the school’s matriarch, was seated in the center of all the smiling young faces.

Ms. Maisel and her late husband, Mel, established Selma Maisel Nursery School at Temple Sholom in 1990.

The couple has been integral to the local Jewish community and leaders within UJA Greenwich.

Ms. Maisel continues to be a positive force to all who have the pleasure of knowing her and is now an honorary grandmother to roughly 2,000 children — the graduates of Selma Maisel Nursery School.

One by one, each class stood before Ms. Maisel and performed the songs they worked so hard on during the week. Ms. Maisel nodded approvingly and was delighted when the children presented her with handmade birthday cards written to “Bubbe Selma.”

The party concluded by singing “Happy Birthday” in both English and Hebrew and cutting the birthday cake with 50 very happy young children.
