Breast Cancer Alliance announced that it is partnering with Greenwich merchants for a special day of events and shopping on Thursday, Oct. 2. This inaugural event, called Go for Pink, will kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Participating Greenwich merchants will be donating a portion of the day’s sales to Breast Cancer Alliance. Currently, one in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer.

Go for Pink will commence with the Breast Cancer Alliance flag-raising ceremony at Greenwich Town Hall at 9 a.m. on Oct. 2. Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei is scheduled to kick off this inaugural event.

The day will conclude with Go for Pink special shopping receptions at participating stores from 5 to 8 p.m. and at Richards of Greenwich until 9 p.m. All participating merchants will feature a sign in their windows, Go for Pink, that will let shoppers know they are partnering with Breast Cancer Alliance for this uplifting community event.

Sharon Phillips, BCA president, said, “We are very enthusiastic about this new community event and grateful to all the town merchants who are demonstrating their support. It should be a wonderful day and a festive evening. All funds raised will directly support the innovative research and targeted support services that are the hallmarks of this focused organization.”

Yonni Wattenmaker, BCA executive director, added, “We especially want to thank Mitchells/Richards, Greenwich Magazine/Moffly Media and the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce for their extraordinary early support of this special event. This promises to be a fun way to support a great cause.”

Greenwich Chamber Executive Director Marcia O’Kane said, “We are very excited to support the first Go for Pink event in Greenwich and encourage all merchants to participate and help mark the kickoff of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is a very important cause that touches all of us and will demonstrate, once again, the power of the Greenwich community to band together to raise funds for breast cancer.”
