As part of the continued effort to bring more solar energy to town and because installation prices have gotten even more competitive, through Feb. 18 Solarize Greenwich is offering Tier 5 pricing, the lowest pricing available.
According to the town, through the Solarize program, the number of solar installations in town has skyrocketed. Prior to the program, roughly 41 Greenwich homeowners had solar installations, but over the past four months an additional 23 residents, meaning an increase of 56%, have adopted solar power. In order to capitalize on Solarize’s current discounts, residents must sign a contract by the program deadline on Feb. 18.
“I am happy that our residents have embraced the Solarize program,” said Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei. “With over 130 kilowatts already contracted, we have significantly increased the use of clean energy in our residential sector. This is a long-term investment in improving the environment in our town. I would encourage anyone considering this to make the move now before the program ends in just a few weeks.”
While solar prices continue to get cheaper, electricity bills are rising. Connecticut has some of the highest home energy prices in the country and with the December 2013 announcement of a significant jump in those rates, a resident using an average of 700 kilowatt-hours per month can expect to see an estimated $150 annual increase in electricity bills. This increase, coupled with the state’s reduction in rebates for solar systems, makes it an ideal time to install a solar system.
Solarize leverages group discounts for residents through a pre-selected installer, Renewable Resources, to reduce the cost of solar. The more residents participate in the program, the more the price drops, with all residents receiving the lowest possible price for their installation.
