With major storms now a frequent occurrence in town and flooding in low lying and coastal areas remaining a serious concern for residents, the Representative Town Meeting (RTM)’s Appointments Committee is seeking interested candidates for the Flood and Erosion Control Board.
The Board meets quarterly and on an as-needed basis. The Town of Greenwich Charter states: “The Flood and Erosion Control Board shall have authority to plan, lay out, acquire, construct, reconstruct, repair, maintain, supervise and manage a Flood or Erosion Control System.”
The RTM nominates and appoints four members and two alternates to the board for terms lasting four years. The first selectman serves as the fifth member of the board.
Interested applicants must be Greenwich residents and be registered voters.
A civil engineering degree is highly desirable with construction, structural, environmental, or hydraulic experience.
Candidates with legal, financial, or municipal budgeting expertise are also encouraged to apply.
Those who are interested in volunteering for this are asked to send a resume and/or a biography to the secretary of the Appointments Committee, Candace Garthwaite, at cvgarthwaite@gmail.com.
