The Greenwich High School girls ice hockey team scored a goal in both the first and second periods and used its potent defense to baffle the Fairfield Warde/Fairfield Ludlowe combined team earlier tonight at Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport, winning 2-0.
“It was a great defensive effort tonight, led by Dart (Freccia) in goal,” Greenwich head coach Brett Farson said. “Any time you get a shut out on the road is a good thing. Luckily we got two goals in front of the net with some hard work. Any win is a good win, so we are going to try build momentum for tomorrow’s senior night and into the postseason.”
At the 14:32 mark of the first period, Maddy Graves took the pass from Casey Crowley and Meghan Flynn and found the back of the net to give the Cards the 1-0 lead.
Big Red extended the lead to 2-0 at the 12:20 mark of the second, as Crowley took the pass form Flynn and beat the Fairfield goalie.
With the victory, the Lady Cardinals improved to 10-9 overall and will be back in action tomorrow night when they host Trumbull High School at 7:15 p.m in their regular season finale.
“I think the Greenwich girls hockey program takes a lot of pride in making the FCIAC tournament and the state tournament and we have done both this year,” Farson said. “To qualify as one of the top four in FCIACs and as one of the top 10 in the state is really nice and another great accomplishment for this program and for these girls.”
